Although I've only been receiving Birchbox since February, I have to say, I really enjoy getting a little box of mystery in the post each month. I never know when it's going to arrive and I never know what the box may contain, unless I receive an email telling me to select what design I may prefer for a product or the box itself. It's like a little surprise and I love using the boxes afterwards to store things in my ALEX drawers from Ikea. This months box was themed 'For The Dreamers' and I have to say that despite the unique design of the box (I had so much fun scratching it all off), it has been my least favourite box so far, especially when I compare the products I received with those that others on Instagram received. I have my profile filled in so that I get products that are more suited for my skin type and hair etc, but I really would have liked to receive the Sarah Chapman spot stickers as opposed to the Vasanti facial rejuvinator as I know I won't use that. But that's the thing with beauty subscription boxes, sometimes you're just going to get a box that's a little more miss than hit and that was the case with this months box. Which is a pity since I really loved last months box. If I was paying for this like the majority of subscribers I would be even more disappointed, and I would consider cancelling my subscription out of fear of receiving such a box again. I know the idea is to try out things you never would have before and I don't mind one or two 'unknowns', but when the only one you've heard of is the coconut oil and make up sponge? Yeh.
Disappointment aside, I have really been liking the anti frizz balm by Philip Kingsley. I'd been on the look out for a reasonably priced one in Boots (there isn't any) so this was actually a good 'unknown' to have and I find it's been helping tame my hair and those awkward fly aways.
The lip tint is quite nice and compact, and I'm a sucker for red. It's handy for throwing in your bag or keeping in your pocket at work but definitely not something I would buy full size.
The Spectrum sponge is my favourite piece from this months box. Even just the unicorns on the packaging, ugh I am obsessed with unicorns right now. I swear I'm not five. I chose the lilac shade and having only ever used the Real Techniques make up sponge, I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with it. You can never have too many make up brushes // sponges so these are always a welcome treat. I had never heard of Spectrum until I received my first Birchbox and I've been eyeing up some of their brushes (mermaid ones!!) and I think I'm just going to have to splurge, packaging alone haha.
So that was this months box, a disappointment, but you'll have that. Not every box is going to be as wowing as the packaging. Next months box comes with discounted QUAY sunglasses and I think it was £12 off of £30? Not too shabby considering how on trend and expensive QUAY are right now, I have a pair already and I'm obsessed with them. So if you're not subbed already, I'd definitely sub for the discount on those alone.
(Although this box has been sent to me by Birchbox UK to consider for review, it has not impacted my opinion in the slightest. You can read my full disclaimer here. )
